• 4:30 p.m. — CoderDojo at the Brandon Public Library until 5:30 p.m. In collaboration with Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Brandon, CoderDojo is open to any youth between the ages of seven and 17 who wants to try their hand at coding. Projects include Scratch, HTML, Python and more. Participants are encouraged to bring their own computers. A parent or other adult is required to stay with children aged eight and younger.

•5 p.m. — Brandon Global Market until 8 p.m. All kinds of vendors and entertainment. Corner of Rosser Avenue and 12th Street.

MUSEUMS AND GALLERIES

• Art Gallery of Southwestern Manitoba — The exhibition “Dream Within I” by Kay Chapman is on display in the Community Gallery until Aug, 24. Brilliant colours, random marks and swatches of paper and textiles led Chapman on an intuitive mission in creative exploration. The exhibitions “Standing in the Calm of the Storm” by Doug Derksen and “Reproducing the Old Masters” by Jan Brancewicz are on display in the Main Gallery until Sept. 7.

•Brandon General Museum and Archives — Located at 19 Ninth St., presents “Seeds of Success: Brandon Seed Houses 1883-Present” held over until Sept. 15. “Looking to the Past: Brandon Labour History” is on exhibit until the end of August. Open Tuesday to Friday 1-4 p.m. and Saturdays 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

•Daly House Museum — Original home of Brandon’s first mayor, Thomas Mayne Daly, was built in 1882 and is the only period museum in western Manitoba. Exhibition, “Imagining Summer Gardens: Images from the A.E. McKenzie Visual Archives,” runs until Oct. 12. •Commonwealth Air Training Plan Museum — Canada’s only air museum solely dedicated to the preservation of those who trained and fought for the British Commonwealth during the Second World War is open 1-4 p.m., seven days a week at the Brandon Municipal Airport. The museum’s RCAF Second World War Memorial is open to the public from sunrise to sundown. For more info, call 204-727-2444.

•Royal Canadian Artillery Museum — An award-winning national museum that has five major galleries and more than 40 vehicles and guns located outside in the Gun Park. Located at CFB Shilo. The museum is wheelchair-accessible, air-conditioned and has lots of RV parking. Hours: 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday to Friday. Admission is charged. •Wasagaming Community Art Gallery — Wasagaming Community Arts third exhibition of the 2019 season; featuring artwork by Lanre Buraimoh, Kay Chapman, Forouzandeh Kasrai and Allan Tataryn runs until July 23. In July and August, we offer children’s programs with the option to attend five classes by purchasing four in a series.

•Artist Heart Studio and Gallery — 1108 Rosser Ave., open Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 11 a.m.-4 p.m. or by appointment 204-761-4448. “Oh My Canada,” the current exhibition, runs until Aug. 23.

•Glen P. Sutherland Gallery of Art — Gallery hours: Wednesday to Saturday from 2-6 p.m; Thursday 2-8 p.m. Entrance to the building is from the parking lot to the north of the building.

•Virden Pioneer Home Museum — Guided tours are offered throughout the summer. The tour guides are here to answer any questions you may have regarding museum artifacts and ensure you have the best experience possible.Tours are $5 adults/$2 for children. The original home (built in 1888) depicts a family home in the Victorian era and additional annexes showcase other home, business, military and farm-related displays. Open Monday to Saturday 9 a.m.-6 p.m. and Sunday 1-6 p.m.

UPCOMING EVENTS

•July 22 — Summer art classes start at the Art Gallery of Southwestern Manitoba from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. The children’s and teens Summer Art Program runs until July 26. Full days or half days are available. The programs accommodate ages six to nine, nine to 12, or 13-17. All workshops are all listed on the Art Gallery’s website (agsm.ca) or contact the Art Gallery for a printed brochure.

•July 22 — Wheat City Lawn Bowling invites you to give lawn bowling a try. Drop-ins always welcome. Come any Monday to Thursday evening throughout the summer. Arrive at 6:45 p.m., with start at 7 p.m. Equipment supplied. First night free.

•July 22 — Weekly mindfulness meditation classes at Inspire You Studio. Explore meditation and the different variations through each month. Resident guide Kristin Jette samples four different meditation practices: transcendental meditation; body scan; mantras; and chakra. Individual, private sessions are also available. Meditations are free and participants are encouraged to provide a donation (monetary or non). Classes are accessible to everyone.

• July 25 — Old Fashioned Small Town Carnival in Neepawa 4-8 p.m. featuring carnival games, farmers’ market, and face painting.

•Aug. 24 — Manuliak’s special annual charity barbecue fundraiser for Special Olympics from noon to 4 p.m. at the Keystone Centre.

•Aug. 25 — Kite Festival & Family Fun Day 11 a.m.-6 p.m. at BYSA Soccer Park. Activities include kite flying competitions, face-painting, kite-building, bouncy house and so much more. Bring a blanket and make it a picnic, food concessions will be on site.

•Aug. 28 — The Dream 2 Inspire event is coming to Brandon in support of Westman Dreams For Kids as well as Brandon’s latest Water Park attraction. The event takes place from 6:30-8 p.m. at the Keystone Centre ampitheatre. The event features two-time Canadian Juggling Champion — Robin Chestnut and multiple award-winning magician Patrick (The Astonisher) Gregoire.
