Racism. Xenophobia. Bigot. Those were just a few of Merriam-Webster's top searches on Wednesday night

Words heavily involved in news coverage over the last few days are leading searches on Merriam-Webster.com.

On a night when President Donald Trump held a rally in North Carolina that included chants of "send her back" after he mentioned one congresswoman of color, "racism," "socialism," "fascism," "concentration camp," "xenophobia" and "bigot" were the top searches on Merriam-Webster.com, the website tweeted Wednesday night.

Each term has a link to recent news.

"Racism," "xenophobia," "fascism," and "bigot" — and words that relate to them — have all been used to describe Trump since he tweeted that four Democratic congresswomen should "go back" to the "crime infested places from which they came."

Trumps tweets were condemned as racist by the U.S. House of Representatives. 

The congresswomen, collectively known as "The Squad," are: Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York; Ilhan Omar of Minnesota.; Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts; and Rashida Tlaib of Michigan. Three were born in the United States; Omar has been an American citizen for nearly 20 years. 

Ocasio-Cortez called migrant detention centers "concentration camps" last month. The conditions in the centers and how those who are detained are treated has been a topic for weeks. 

"Socialism" is defined by Merriam-Webster as "any of various economic and political theories advocating collective or governmental ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods." The members of "The Squad" have been called socialists.
