Judging by the colossal increase in the number of Jacksonville High School football season tickets that have been sold this summer, the Historic Tomato Bowl should be rocking and rolling on at least six Friday evenings this fall.
As of Tuesday, 948 season tickets have been purchased, according to Alison Jones, Director of Accounting for the Jacksonville Independent School District.
This is a 65.16-percent increase over the number of season ducats (574) that were sold in 2017, the last season football was played in the facility prior to a $15 million dollar total make over being done on the beloved stadium.
Jones said that there are 132 blue and gold reserved seats remaining, so fans still have an opportunity to procure season tickets, which are $42 each.
All season tickets are located in the chair back seats, located in the upper portion of the center sections.
Season tickets are now sold at the JISD Central Office, which makes it much easier, logistically, to purchase tickets than in years past.
Although the seating configuration is completely different in the new and improved stadium, according to JISD's Calah Moake, season ticket purchasers took the changes in stride.
“There were some minor differences. Some people that had an aisle seat back in 2017 were not able to have an aisle seat this year (due to the rows being longer),” Moake said. “There is not a bad seat in the house and all of our season ticket holders were able to see the locations of their seats and make their decisions.”
Moake said she that she was pleased with how seamless everything went.
“It was a very smooth process,” she said. “We had several meetings (prior to season tickets going on sale June 19) and we did a lot of planning in advance and everything came together well.”
Fans will be able to catch the Indians in action at the Tomato Bowl on six occasions this fall, beginning with the season opener against the Carthage Bulldogs on Aug. 30.
Other teams that are slated to appear in Jacksonville this season include Henderson (Sept. 13, homecoming), Whitehouse (Oct. 4), Marshall (Oct. 18), Mount Pleasant (Nov.1) and Lindale (Nov. 8).
