The iconic Irvine Magnum leisure centre was torn down two years ago, today.

This haunting image is the last taken of the once vibrant hotspot.

Former Irvine Herald reporter Peter Diamond was given exclusive access to the grounds before it was razed to the ground.

He said: "What was once a place where people came to have fun, meet friends and play sport, it was dark, eerie and sad."

The closure of the Magnum was agreed back in 2009 due to dwindling visitor numbers.

This sparked a public outcry, echoing the time the ‘Auld Brig’ was knocked down to make way for the Rivergate shopping mall in the 1970s.
