Percussionist completes 50 years of his journey in the music industry
Fifty years of well-known percussionist of the Bengali music industry, Biplab Mondal, was celebrated at a city auditorium recently.
The evening had a long lineup of artistes who came down to pay their tribute to Biplab in the form of songs, poems and words of affection. The event kick-started with Srabanti performing the Rabindrasangeet, Dariye Acho Tumi Amar.
Soon after this, there were performances by several other artistes including Manoj Murli Nair, Manisha Murli Nair, Iman Chakraborty, Chandrabali Rudra Dutta, Subho Dasgupta, Kalyan Sen Barat, Anita Paul, Avik Mallick, Deepabali Rudra Dutta, Goutam Das, Nandita Sarkar, Alo Kundu, Sridhara Gupta, Suchanda Ghosh, Aditi Gupta, Arindam Bandyopadhyay, Sabyasachi Chanda, Sutapa Bandyopadhyay Sarkar, Riddhi Bandyopadhyay and Devajit Bandyopadhyay.

“I didn’t realise myself how and when 50 years have passed by. Playing Rabindrasangeet for years and trying to make my own versions of it, I’d say there is a lot of scope in it. I thank god for his blessings,” said the percussionist who was also present at the event.
A number of guests that included Biplab’s dear ones and dignitaries from the music industry were called upon to the stage for felicitating him.
The programme came to an end with a dance drama based on Tagore’s Chandalika.
