Aston Villa started their pre-season campaign in some style thanks to a 3-0 win over Minnesota United with goals from Jack Grealish, Henri Lansbury and Birkir Bjarnason.

Dean Smith fielded a whole squad full of players during the two halves in a useful game in umid conditions.

Here's what the home fans of the Allianz Field made of the game:

AniPlaysBass: That was such a wonderful friendly.  Despite the Loons loosing, it was such a pleasure watching AVFC play.  Safe travels back home

Sudude539: Midweek friendly playing a lot of youngsters, plus the heat was awful today. This is about how I expected the game to go

xjoeymillerx: I’ve never been so bored watching this team in my life. The whole match felt lifeless.

Dothewattootsay: Amazing game and amazing atmosphere.

Had the wonderwall to our left and a massive AVFC group to our right. Only way it could have been better would be a MN United win but I can't complain it is an amazing stadium and amazing group of fan (on both side). Fantastic way/place to see my first professional soccer game.

Alex Butcher:   Good workout, held our own for long periods. No complaints here.

Back to the bread and butter now

Mark Berman: The first goal AV was like the hammer of Thor. It was like watching the 1927 Yankees playing a Single A baseball team. Just goes to show how great the Premier League is. Still enjoy the MLS and love going to Allianz to watch the Loons play.

Joshua Patrick: Great game to watch. When you play an EPL team you can’t expect to win. Great experience for the bench.
