Beginning its ice cream and flavoured milk operations through 20 outlets, Dumont is looking at reaching a size of around 100 outlets by next year-end and 200 outlets over three years, where nearly 30% of outlets will be owned and the balance through franchise route.
Two-decade-old dairy products manufacturer Dumont with ice cream and frozen desert manufacturing facilities near Vijayawada is looking to expand its manufacturing and cold storage infrastructure by setting up new ice cream making facility in Hyderabad.

Currently catering to the B2B segment for frozen desert products under brands like Dairy Treat, Dairy Nuts and Dairy Fudge, among others, Dumont is set to launch its ice cream products nationally on Friday, said its managing director Vivek Inampudi.

Addressing journalists in Hyderabad on Thursday, he said Dumont has spent over Rs 3 crore on Research and Development to develop unique and rare flavours for its ice cream products that weren’t available in the Indian ice cream industry so far. “Some of these unique flavours include Blueberry Cheesecake, Caramelised Pineapple, Choco Orange, Maple & Raisins, Kheer, and Thai Tea, among 34 flavours that we developed.”

Dumont, which procures farm fresh milk from countryside and fruits and ingredients from authentic sources across the globe, now has a manufacturing facility to produce 1,900 litres of ice cream an hour near Vijayawada.

It currently has 10 cold storages spread across Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Karnataka, apart from 25 cold storage vehicles to distribute its products – both ice cream and milkshakes – to destinations across South India.

The ice cream manufacturing facility at Hyderabad will have a production capacity of around 3,000 litres an hour, involving an investment of over Rs 15 crore, said Vivek.

The company will primarily focus on South India and Maharashtra markets with a target to set up 200 outlets over the next three years with an annual sales target of around Rs 120 crore, he said. The company is currently earning over Rs 25 crore a year through sale of frozen desert products.

India’s organised flavoured milk and ice cream market is currently estimated at around Rs 6,000 crore with an estimated annual growth of around 30%, he said.

Beginning its ice cream and flavoured milk operations through 20 outlets, Dumont is looking at reaching a size of around 100 outlets by next year-end and 200 outlets over three years, where nearly 30% of outlets will be owned and the balance through franchise route.
