GALAX, Va. — For decades after the Blue Ridge Parkway emerged in the 1930s, the scenic mountain route showcased the area’s natural beauty while also passing through communities boasting musical traditions just as spectacular.

Yet there was nothing of a physical nature to bring this culture to the forefront — that is, until construction began on the Blue Ridge Music Center in 2000.
