Maui Huliau Foundation Farm-to-Table Benefit, Aug. 3

Maui Huliau Foundation, a nonprofit organization offering environmental education programs to Maui youth, will host its 7th annual farm-to-table benefit celebration and food-focused film festival at Sugar Beach Events oceanfront venue in Kīhei.

Guests will enjoy short films made by students in grades 7-12 from Maui Huliau’s filmmaking program, including a film featuring event chefs and the farms where they have sourced the ingredients for their dishes. Maui Huliau Foundation will also screen a couple favorite films from this past year’s filmmaking program.

“I wouldn’t be who I am today without the opportunities, experiences and knowledge I’ve gained in the past six years through Maui Huliau Foundation’s programs,” said Taylor Redman, a seventh year Huliau student who recently graduated from Kamehameha. “The skills that I’ve learned in their filmmaking and leadership programs will not only benefit me in college, but will also help me pass this knowledge on to future generations.”

The event also features ten chef stations, a cash bar of locally-produced cocktails, beer and wine, live music, a food-themed student film contest and an impressive array of silent auction items including hotel stays and gift certificates to Maui’s top restaurants.

The locally sourced bar will feature signature cocktails with Organic Ocean Vodka and Deep Island Hawaiian Rum, a selection of Maui Brewing Company’s brews and wines by Maui Wine. Vitali-Tea Kombucha Maui is also providing kombucha made from locally sourced ingredients. Nā Hōkū Hanohano award-nominated musician Arlie-Avery Asiu will be performing live ʻukulele music.

We appreciate the opportunity to support the positive environmental messages and youth-led movements they continue to expand and disperse.”

Top chefs on Maui will serve fresh, locally inspired small plates and desserts. Chefs include: Alvin Savella of Grand Wailea’s Humuhumunukunukuaphuaʻa restaurant, Isaac Bancaco of Andaz Maui at Wailea, John Cadman of Pono Pies, Eric Morrissette of Fleetwoods on Front St, Lee Anderson of Sugar Beach Events, Gary Johnson of Sea Salt food truck, Chef Zach Laidlaw of Hua Momona Farms, Dean Louie of UH Maui College, Maja Liotta of Lilikoi Creations, and private chef Carol Wallack.

“We are thrilled with all the talented chefs who are joining us this year for our Huliau Food & Film Festival,” said Carol Wallack, Volunteer Chef Coordinator and Huliau board member. “These chefs are passionate about supporting our programs and about farm-to-table cuisine. Their delectable tastings for our guests highlight the bounty from our local farmers.”

The Huliau Food & Film Festival will be held on Saturday, Aug. 3, 2019 from 6 to 9 p.m. The event is open to guests 21 and over only. Tickets are $95 in advance ($115 at the door) including access to all chef stations and two complimentary drinks, and are available to purchase online.

All proceeds will benefit environmental education programs for youth on Maui including the Huliau Environmental Filmmaking Club, the Huliau Outdoor Leadership Council, the Huliau Climate Literacy Project, Huliau Green Events and youth summer programs organized by their alumni.
