Swift on injury woes

Midfielder John Swift has been talking about his recent injury woes.

The former Chelsea player missed Reading’s run in at the end of last season but after an operation on his hip, he says he’s feeling in much better shape.

He said to Radio Berkshire: “That’s what pre-season is, it’s where the hard work begins. I think it’s the first time I’ve played two games in one day in professional football.

“It’s needed because I was out at the end of the season, I need my fitness and if I have to play twice in a day, then it’s fair enough.

“I had surgery on my hip, I’ve had no problems since so I’m back to training every day with the lads, doing what they’re doing - doing extra bits when I can and trying to get my fitness in top shape for when the season starts.

“I was in during the summer anyway, in between holiday I was in doing physio and going out on the pitch as well. I was in for the week building up to the start of pre-season, and then I’ve joined in like normal.

“I’ve not missed a session, I’ve not missed any running drills that we’ve needed to do, I’ve been in right from the start.

Kelly reveals why he swapped Reading for Feyenoord

Former Reading midfielder Liam Kelly says he ‘had a feeling’ he would be leaving the club this summer.

The 23-year-old Royals academy product sealed a move away from the club last week to Dutch giants Feyenoord.

The transfer sees Kelly reunited with former Reading boss Jaap Stam and ended a 15-year association in Berkshire.

His exit came after a disappointing 2019 which saw him fall out of favour under Jose Gomes and his final appearance came at Sheffield United in February.

Kelly has since admitted he was not overly surprised at leaving Reading, for whom he only played 22 games for in 2018/19.

'Mr Dai won’t be backed into a corner'

Reading captain Liam Moore insists the club’s owner Dai Yongge will not be backed into a corner in this summer’s transfer market.

Royals’ problems with Financial Fair Play (FFP) have been well documented and boss Jose Gomes has stressed he is desperate to strengthen his squad ahead of the new season.

The club needs to move a number of players on to allow the manager to bring players in, but Royals are struggling to shift the players they do not want.

However, Moore believes the club won’t allow themselves to be exploited by others looking to take advantage of the financial issues.

Miazga speculation

Speculation has come out linking Matt Miazga with a move to Fiorentina.

The American was on loan at Reading last season.

However, it’s reported the Blues want €20m for the defender, who has three years left on his contract at Stamford Bridge.

Brescia are also said to be interested in Miazga, who returns to Chelsea shortly after international duty with the USA.

The price puts Reading firmly out of the picture for the centre-back, but a loan move could be a possibility if all parties can agree on a deal.
