Scoring against a side ranked 156th in the FIFA World rankings may be top of the list of ways to make a name for yourself just hours after signing for a new club.
That’s exactly what Magpies latest recruit Danny Whitehall did, coolly slotting his penalty home to give Maidenhead the lead and ultimately decide Tuesday night’s international encounter.
The young centre-forward was not officially unveiled as a Magpies player until the morning after his goal against Kuwait, but his impressive performance gave fans a taste of what the forward can bring to Berkshire after spending the last four years in America.
“I’m feeling good,” said Whitehall.
“As a striker it’s nice to score goals early and not have it hanging over your head so we start as we mean to go on.”
The 23-year-old also netted against Bracknell Town on Saturday and joins the club after turning out for the likes of Nebraska Bugeaters FC and Chattanooga FC in the States.
Whitehall, who was on the books at Liverpool, Rochdale, Southport and Marine FC, is looking forward to getting back into English football and told the Advertiser what fans can expect from him this season.
“I’ll battle,” added Whitehall.
“Being 6ft 3 I can win headers, bring other people into play and hopefully a few goals to go along with that as well.
“I’m looking forward to playing .
“I just miss English football really.”
