Mantri heckled in Cooch Behar
Cooch Behar: Trinamool minister Rabindranath Ghosh was on Thursday heckled allegedly by BJP activists at Dhaluabari in Cooch Behar I block.
The North Bengal development department minister was there to take part in a rally in support of the July 21 Kolkata rally. Hundreds of BJP supporters blocked Ghosh on his way to Dhaluabari market and shouted ‘Jai Sri Ram’.
The incident sparked tension, prompting police to disperse the mob.
The agitators sat on the road and later, they allegedly vandalised the local Trinamool office.
“BJP exposed itself again today. Party cadres are on the rampage in the state. This will not go on for long. People will resist,” said Ghosh.
The BJP leadership, however, rubbished the allegations, claiming local people had stopped Ghosh from going to the rally at Dhaluabari market. “Rabindranath Ghosh is being paid in his own coin. People of Cooch Behar have started responding to his atrocities,” a BJP leader said.
Ghosh was recently removed as the party’s district president by Trinamool chief and CM Mamata Banerjee.
