HYDERABAD:
Telangana home minister Mohammed Mahmood Ali is in the eye of the storm after his grandson Furqan Ahmed purpotedly made a
TikTok video, sitting on a police vehicle. As the video went viral, netizens lost no time in identifying that the vehicle belonged to the Police Transport Organisation.
What attracted extra attention was the content of the video — a person sitting beside the home minister’s grandson, who is in his mid-twenties, is provoking police.
The person issues a stern warning to an inspector-general of police and indicates with his hand that he would slice his throat. Furqan Ahmed identifies himself as an engineering student and managing director of a TV channel in his social media profile.
Mahmood Ali, who was earlier deputy chief minister in the previous TRS government, said he was against the video. “If it merits some action to be taken, I am a law-abiding citizen and will not offer an excuse. I had gone to attend a function in the Old City and this is where the video appears to have been shot. My grandson is seen on the bonnet of the car and another youth with him is speaking in the video,” the home minister said.
Furqan seen sitting on police vehicleIn the
TikTok video, the other person disembarks from the vehicle to confront an IG (not seen in the video, but a voice is heard). The IG calls out ‘Surya’ and the person advances menacingly towards the officer, warning him against addressing his ‘brother’ (Furqan Ahmed) disrespectfully. In the dialogue, he warns the police officer to mind his tongue and if he does not, he would slice off his neck (shows it with action).
All this while, Furqan, sitting on vehicle bonnet, looks pleased that someone loyal to him was taking on police. DGP M Mahendar Reddy could not be reached on phone to know if any action would be initiated. He also did not respond to a message from TOI. Another top cop said they were yet to verify the authenticity of the video.
