MUMBAI: A city NGO along with Mumbai traffic police and IIT experts is conducting a comprehensive study on speeds and the mitigation measures to be undertaken at 20 accident prone spots of Mumbai. On Thursday, it commenced the baseline assessment of vehicular speeds for 12 hours at Ramabai Nagar 'black spot' on Eastern Express highway.
The project, titled 'Slow Down' aims at curbing speeding behavior among motorists at speeding/accident spots.

Said Ajay Govale from United Way Mumbai, the NGO spearheading the project, "Our volunteers stood at Ramabai Nagar accident prone spot along with the Mumbai traffic police staff and used speed guns to track speeding vehicles. We are also collating data for different categories of vehicles, finding the number of vehicles accessing the stretch at any given hour and the various speeds."
He further stated, "This is the start of the survey. We are going to do this for 12 hours on two days - a working day and a weekend. This will be replicated at 20 spots. The report will be then compiled and released."
