Haritha Rakshana Samithis have been constituted in each village.

Every village in the district would have avenue plantation for two kilometres each at entry and exit points, as part of Haritha Haaram this year, said District Collector Prashanth Jeevan Patil on Thursday.

These trees would be looked after by the unemployed youth of the village and each of them would get ₹5,000 per month. Besides, one youth would take care of the trees planted inside the village.

If they ensure the survival of 80 per cent greenery by March next year, they would get an additional incentive of ₹10,000.

Speaking to The Hindu , Mr. Patil said that they have been given a target of planting one crore saplings but due to delayed monsoon, they might not be able to achieve it. Instead, they would focus on protecting the plants and ensure maximum survival rate.

“We have already planted two lakh saplings. We have constituted Haritha Rakshana Samithis in each village and apart from appointing local youth, the panchayat secretary will be responsible for the survival rate of the trees,” he said.

A chart would be displayed at panchayat offices showing the number of trees planted, number of plants that perished and number of plants that survived each month. At the end of March, five best plant caregivers would be selected from each mandal and awarded cash prizes, he added.

As against the normal practice of pitching small plants, the district administration was now focusing on planting trees that can grow beyond four to five feet. Each village would be given 800 to 1,000 plants, he said.

Mr. Patil also said that they were emphasising on making Warangal city greener by planting more trees at medians. “We have identified three important medians – Diesel Colony to Fathimanagar in Kazipet, 100-feet road to KUC and Kadipikonda to Naidu petrol pump. These stretches will get an aesthetic look after plantation,” he said.

The district administration also identified 50 parks in colonies across the city where intense plantation would be taken up involving the community.
