Fauxrraris and Shamborghinis: Brazil cops bust knockoff supercar ring building, selling fake Ferraris, Lamborghinis - powered by Holden engines

PerthNow

Police in Brazil have swooped to shut down a small car factory pumping out fake supercars - powered by engines used in old Holden Commodores.

Authorities in the southern state of Santa Catarina allege a father and son team were building knockoff Ferraris and Lamborghinis and offloading them for as little as $64,000.

The pair were arrested following complaints from the two Italian manufacturers and now face industrial property charges, despite claims the cars were legal prototypes, according to The Sun.

Police say they seized eight replicas from the clandestine workshop, all in the process of being assembled, together with fake badges, seats and other accessories.

Powering one of the fakes, according to a spokesman involved in the operation, was the “engine of an (Chevrolet) Omega”, a re-badged Holden Commodore exported to South America.
