LUCKNOW: As political drama unfolded over the Sonebhadra incident in which 10 people were killed,
BSP chief
Mayawati on Friday held both the
Congress and the
BJP responsible for oppression of tribals.
“Earlier it was the Congress government at the Centre and now it's the BJP government which is responsible for the oppression of tribals. Under Congress’s rule, tribals were displaced from forest land.
It even forced some of them to become Maoists,” she said.
Referring to the
Sonbhadra incident, an outcome of an alleged land dispute, the former UP chief minister said that now this time, under the BJP government in Uttar Pradesh, Kol tribals have been displaced from their lands and killed.
“It is worth noting that whichever party is out of power, it always shed crocodile tears when such incidents take place. We can see that happening in Sonebhadra as well even as BSP members have been putting pressure on the government since the day of the incident to get justice for the victims,” Mayawati said.
