When there’s heat and heavy humidity, a thunderstorm usually isn’t far off.
A severe thunderstorm watch is in place from Environment Canada spanning London and Middlesex County.
The advisory was upgraded to a severe thunderstorm warning around 12:20 p.m. Friday, but was later brought down to a watch shortly after 6:30 p.m.
A tornado warning was also issued for the London area at one point early in the afternoon.
The warning, which arrived around 1:30 p.m. and lasted about 40 minutes, came as a major storm system moved through the region, bringing heavy rainfall, large hail, and frequent lightning and thunder.
London’s forecast calls for a 70 per cent chance of showers or thunderstorms Friday evening along with a risk of a severe thunderstorm.
Showers are also possible Saturday along with sun and cloud, but Environment Canada has set the chance of precipitation at just 30 per cent.
A heat warning also remains in place for the region. Heat warnings are also in effect for the rest of southern Ontario, as well as parts of northern Ontario, Quebec, and the Maritimes.
Temperatures had been forecast to reach the mid-30s on Friday, with the humidex making things feel 10 degrees warmer.
However, Environment Canada reports the mercury only rose to 30 C before the storm system that arrived with the tornado warning dropped the temperature to 25 C.
Hot and humid conditions are expected for Saturday, with an afternoon high of 35 C expected.
Sunday will see cloudy skies, a 60 per cent chance of showers, and a high of 24 C.
