Congress leader killed in West Champaran

Congress leader Mohammad Faqaruddin Khan (55) was shot dead by two bike-borne criminals near his Sohasa Chaughariya village under the Ramnagar police station area in West Champaran district on Friday.

PATNA: Congress leader Mohammad Faqaruddin Khan (55) was shot dead by two bike-borne criminals near his Sohasa Chaughariya village under the Ramnagar police station area in West Champaran district on Friday.
Faqaruddin had unsuccessfully contested the 2005 state assembly elections as Congress candidate from Narkatiaganj. He had also contested the 2019 parliamentary election as an independent candidate from Paschim Champaran before joining the Congress again.
His wife Nazneen Khanam is the mukhiya of Sohasa panchayat.
Police sources said the criminals shot at Faqaruddin when he was returning home on his motorcycle after participating in a panchayat meeting held around one kilometre away from his village. The villagers took him to Ramnagar hospital where the doctors declared him brought dead.
Narkatiaganj SDPO Arjun Lal said, “The reason behind the murder might be related to the settlement of a pond.” Police sources said some persons had heated arguments with Khan when he was returning home.
Tension prevailed in Ramnagar area after the murder. No one was arrested in the case till late evening.
Bihar Congress president Madan Mohan Jha hit out at the state government over the deteriorating law and order situation in Bihar and demanded thorough probe into the case. “Criminals are not under control in the Sushasan Babu (CM Nitish Kumar) regime. There are incidents of murder, robbery, rape and kidnapping every day,” Jha said.
