  2. Alaphilippe does it again

    It's fair to say that, by extending his lead, Julian Alaphilippe exceeded expectations today - again!

    There are more days in the mountains to come, but the maillot jaune keeps coming up with the answers whenever people doubt whether he can sustain his form.

  3. Pinot in the mix

    Thibault Pinot is on the podium and taking the plaudits for the stage win - he is firmly in the battle for the yellow jersey too.

    The Frenchman is up to sixth overall, three minutes and 12 seconds behind his compatriot, Julian Alaphilippe.

  4. Thomas stays second

    Geraint Thomas stays second overall in the general classification, two minutes and two seconds behind Julian Alaphilippe.

  5. Thomas loses 36 seconds

    Defending champion Geraint Thomas finished eighth, 36 seconds behind Thibault Pinot.

  6. Quintana finishes

    Nairo Quintana rolls over the line. Not a good day for him.

    There are lots of riders still out on the Col du Tourmalet though.

  7. Thomas loses 30+ seconds

    Geraint Thomas crosses the line, around 30 seconds behind Julian Alaphilippe.

  8. Alaphilippe finishes second

    Julian Alaphilippe is second over the line... Geraint Thomas is going to lose several seconds here.

    Thibaut Pinot crosses the line, arms aloft.

    Emanuel Buchmann is leading the front six riders, that includes Alaphilippe. Gerant Thomas has been left behind, but is digging in to try to cut his losses.

    Thomas has dropped off the back of the leaders.

    Mikel Landa of Movistar moves to the front. Alaphilippe moves ahead of Geraint Thomas, and is still looking strong.

    Geraint Thomas motors round the outside of a bend... Alaphilippe loses him, but only briefly.

    Alaphilippe is still marking Geraint Thomas. They are near the back of this lead group, which is down to 12 riders.

    Steven Kruijswijk, in third overall in the general classification, is still in this group... in fact all the big-hitters are, apart from Nairo Quintana, who is one minute and 50 seconds down the road.

    Kruijswijk has got two Jumbo-Visma team-mates for company. Geraint Thomas still has Egan Bernal of course.
