Frimley Lodge Park has officially opened its new playground following a £150,000 makeover.

Pupils from Mytchett Primary School were among the first to test out the new community facility at a ribbon cutting event on Thursday, July 18.

Aimed at children up to age 14 , it includes a wide variety of features including castle and keep-themed towers, racing zipwires, a sensory path, sandpit and various types of swing.

Inclusive play equipment includes a ground level roundabout and trampoline, sensory eco-rain wheel, play panels, tipi carousel, birds nest swing and see-saw.

The new play area design was developed through a public consultation involving park users, schools and residents, and chosen via a public vote held by Surrey Heath Borough Council at the end of last year.

Work started on refurbishing the play area in April 23, with the work expected to take around four to five weeks, but it was delayed.

Thankfully though it has opened in time for the start of the school summer holidays .

One happy young park user at the opening was Emily Wedgwood, aged 9, a pupil at Mytchett Primary School.

She said: "I love the new playground - it's brilliant.

"It has lots of the equipment that my friends and I asked for, like trampolines and climbing frames.

"It was really good that the council asked children what they thought should be in the new playground, and listened to us.

"I am so happy that the new playground is open – we are going to have so much fun here."
