Ole Gunnar Solskjaer believes Manchester United have coped comfortably without Romelu Lukaku during their pre-season tour of Australia and Asia.

The Belgium international missed the victories over Perth Glory and Leeds through injury and was again unavailable for selection against Inter on Saturday.

Antonio Conte is desperate to sign the 26-year-old but Inter failed with a £54million bid on Friday, much to the Italian’s frustration.

Solskjaer, meanwhile, is delighted with the way his side has adapted and believes his forward line is beginning to get to grips with the pressing style he is desperate to implement.

The Norwegian was particularly impressed with the contributions of Marcus Rashford and Jesse Lingard against Inter, while teenage sensation Mason Greenwood stole the headlines with a well taken winning goal in the 76th minute.

Solskjaer hopes to build a new-look attack around fast and versatile forwards, including the likes of Anthony Martial and summer recruit Daniel James who has also made an impressive start to life as a United player.

‘I don’t know how many times Jesse won the ball today – [he’s] one of the best ones in that pressing football,’ said the United manager.

‘Marcus is also very good at it. You can see Anthony working hard and winning a few balls for us as well. It’s been very encouraging.

‘We’re getting better and better. We’ve had three weeks now and we’ve been working on the intensity and the pressing. We’ve got players that like to press on the front-foot.

‘I think we’ve done really well without Romelu. We all know he’s one of the top, top strikers in the world.

‘We’ve maybe played a different way with Anthony, Marcus, Mason. As a coach, you adapt to the players available.’
