Over in the United States, the XT6 is produced at Spring Hill in Tennessee with the LGX engine. The 3.6-liter naturally aspirated V6 is adequate for a mid-size crossover with three rows of seats, but over in China, the Shanghai GM-manufactured XT6 relies on a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 237 horsepower on tap.
The output mirrors that of the LSY utilized by Cadillac in the XT4, which also develops 258 pound-feet of torque between 1,500 and 4,000 rpm. Paired to a nine-speed automatic transmission as standard, the turbocharged engine serves as a successor to the LTG and combines stop/start with Active Fuel Management technology.

Premiered in China almost half a year after the U.S. model, the XT6 is available in the Middle Kingdom in no fewer than five trim levels. Five exterior colors and for interior options are also featured, along with Luxury and Sport flavors for the exterior styling. Paddle shifters are an optional extra, but on the upside, the mid-size crossover promises class-leading headroom for all six or seven passengers.

Cadillac further makes a case for 25 storage spaces, which is rather impressive for a vehicle in this segment. A lot of technology is built into the XT6 from the get-go, starting with adaptive LED headlamps and active noise control. The CUE infotainment system is complemented by an 8.0-inch touchscreen and the capability to perform updates over the air.

Wood and carbon-fiber trim for the interior are on offer, along with the UltraView power sunroof and power sunshade, an air ionizer, and 14-speaker sound system from Bose. Care to guess how much the XT6 costs in China? Make that 419,700 yuan, the equivalent to $61,000 at today’s exchange rate.

The XT6 in the United States retails at $52,695 excluding destination charge. All-wheel drive adds $2,000 to the price, and with the appropriate options, you’ll easily reach $65,000 for a well-equipped model. Prospective customers with a tighter budget can choose the Chevrolet Traverse, GMC Acadia, or Buick Enclave half-siblings at a more reasonable price point.
