NTA challenges order to revise med aspirant’s community rank

The agency, represented by its chairperson and senior director, submitted that the said order had been passed without providing it an opportunity to submit their contentions.

MADURAI: The National Testing Agency (NTA) of the Central Government has filed an appeal before the Madurai Bench of Madras High Court challenging an order passed by the court last month directing the agency to revise the community rank of a medical aspirant. The agency, represented by its chairperson and senior director, submitted that the said order had been passed without providing it an opportunity to submit their contentions.

“The medical aspirant one Vikram Balaji of Theni had ample time to make corrections to the community category, which according to him had been wrongly entered as OBC instead of SC by his school. But he failed to use the same till the last minute,” NTA said.

The court had also failed to consider that any change in the ranking at the last moment will cause repercussions throughout India affecting other students who were careful in mentioning category, the agency contended and sought direction to set aside the order. A bench comprising Justices K Ravichandrabaabu and Senthilkumar Ramamoorthy has adjourned case to next week.
