Scholarship honors longtime educator, lifelong resident

Genevieve Ludemann, second from right, stands with recent Fredonia High graduates Calan Britz, Dyresse Batten and Carly Morton.

Fifty eight years ago in 1961 a group of community members gathered to form a new community scholarship for the Fredonia Central Schools.

This year, one of the scholarships was given to honor Genevieve Ludemann, one of the founding members. Ludemann is a retired teacher, who has been an involved community member.

She has been a lifelong Chautauqua County resident. A graduate of Brocton Central School in 1949, she received her bachelor’s degree in elementary education and her master’s in elementary education from the State University of New York at Fredonia.

She retired from teaching at the Fredonia Central School in 1986 after thirty one years of teaching and remembers her work with students outside the classroom to be as rewarding as her classroom teaching. Community service has been an integral part of her life. She serves on the Diaconate Board of the Baptist Church and on the Board of their Nursery School.

She is a lifetime member of the New York State PTA and an active lifetime member of the League of Women Voters. Currently, she is an active member of the United Seniors of Fredonia and the Brocton-Portland Seniors.
