Alleging that 50 Samajwadi Party (SP) leaders were killed in 28 districts of Uttar Pradesh since the Lok Sabha elections and also “patronage” of the BJP behind the killings, SP MLAs staged a walk-out from the Uttar Pradesh Assembly Monday. This came as Parliamentary Affairs Minister Suresh Khanna tried to cite incidents of killings during the Samajwadi Party’s tenure in power.
SP leader Sanjay Garg, moving an adjournment motion, alleged, “In the past two months, 50 people of Samajwadi Party have been killed in 28 districts. Those in the government and administration want to conspire in finishing off the opposition.
He even cited incidents from different districts, including seven from Prayagraj alone and sought the intervention of the Speaker.
In response, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Suresh Khanna said that in the past there was “jungle Raj” prevailing the state, which he claimed has now been turned into the “rule of law” by the Yogi Adityanath-led government in the state.
Khanna claimed that 15,892 criminals have surrendered from March 19, 2017 to June 30, 2019 and that 83 criminals have been killed so far, who tried to attack police.
Khanna then started citing incidents of killings during SP rule, including those of police officer Zia-ul-Haq in Pratapgarh, killing of a jailer in Varanasi, killing of a constable in 2013, killings in Muzaffarnagar and also claimed that at least 600 policemen were beaten up in different incidents when the SP was in power.
As SP members, including Leader of Opposition Ram Govind Chaudhary, started objecting and saying that the government was shying away from a direct answer, Khanna alleged that when SP was in power, there was rule of “Baahubali” (musclemen), who only concentrated on grabbing land.
Reacting to this, Govind Chaudhary and other SP leaders staged a walkout.
