PUNE: Three young men were killed and four others got seriously injured when a speeding truck hit their motorcycles at Shindewadi, about 23km from Pune, on the Satara highway, on Tuesday early morning.
An officer from the Rajgad police in rural Pune said, "The youngsters were on their way to a dargah at Khed-Shivapur after having a late night party at the Taljai hills in Pune city to celebrate the birthday of one of them.
They had three motorcycles. Six of them started riding triple seat on two bikes and two others were double seat.”
Police suspect that the victims were driving parallel when the truck hit their vehicles. They had reached a spot in front of Kirloskar company at Shindewadi when the accident occurred around 1.30am. Passersby informed police about the accident. The injured were rushed to a nearby hospital.
Police identified the deceased as Suraj Kaka Shinde (23), Sushil Gopal Kamble (24) and Aniket Bharat Randive (24), all residents of Padmavati near Sahakarnagar.
The injured victims, Suresh Kurhade, Chetan Lokhande, Amar Kamble and Karan Jadhav were admitted to a hospital for treatment.
The police have detained the truck driver for his rash and negligent driving.
