Udupi on alert: DC visits rain-affected areas, declares holiday for educational institutions on July 24
DC Korlapati inspects areas affected by heavy rainfall
UDUPI: Deputy Commissioner Hephsiba Rani Korlapati accompanied by Zilla Panchayat CEO Sindhu B Roopesh on Tuesday visited areas affected by heavy rainfall lashing the district and inspected the damage first hand. The duo inspected houses damaged at Hombady, Mundady, Gopady, Kottathattu and Bellampalli and directed the revenue officials to expedite release of relief to those affected by the spell of heavy rains.
In the wake of warning given by the Indian Meteorological Department of heavy rainfall, a red alert has been issued for the district on July 24 with rainfall in excess of 200 mm likely in Hephsiba.

Koni gram panchayat in Kundapur taluk recorded highest rainfall of 295 mm in Karnataka in last 24-hours up to 8.30am on July 23.
The concerned district officials have been directed to take measures in advance to prevent major calamity.
This could include shifting people to safer places, making arrangements for their stay in government approved shelters during such disasters.
District and taluk level officials have also been ordered to remain in their respective headquarters and not switch off their cell phones, she said. Officials should visit the spot from where reports of rain related damage reaches them, the DC said and initiate relief measures forthwith.
Directing officials to warn people residing in low-lying areas, she urged the people to inform the 24x7 control room on 1077 for any rain related damage.
As a precautionary measure, holiday has been declared to all government, private, aided educational institutions in the district including anganwadis on July 24.
