Talking about why she dyed hers fashion blogger Olivia, said on her blog Clothes my boyfriend hates: 'As I’ve had a fair amount of wear out of it, I’ve decided the time has come to … duh duh duh… reinvent it.'

She then went on to say how she did it, revealing that she bought a Dylon washing machine pod dye in ‘Peony Pink: 'Straight after washing the dress in a normal white load, I put it into my empty washing machine whilst it was still damp.

'I simply removed the packaging from the pod and put it in the drum of my machine on top of the dress, and then set it to a normal 30 degree cycle (without any detergent or other products).

'Once that cycle’s done, I put it on another 30 degree cycle but this time with detergent – I use Ariel colour gel – and a tiny bit of fabric softener. And tah-dah! All done! '

Lou, who owns an interiors blog called Love makes a house a home took to Instagram to show off her newly dyed grey dress and said: 'So I wanted to chat about the “Zara dress” I love this dress, it feels nice on, but it’s white with black spots. I don’t really wear much white, and certainly not white dresses.

'Of course the other issue is, everyone owns it too! I decided on grey, it’s a little darker than I expected but I love it. I think I’ll wear this dress a whole lot more more now, and as a darker colour makes me feel better in it too.'

While Claire, a designer and blogger from Nottingham, dyed hers green and showcased it on her Instagram and said: 'I dyed it with Dylon machine dye in Olive. It worked a treat, but the stitching will stay white due to the fabric of the thread. ⠀

She also admitted: 'Mine was looking a bit tired and I’m a spiller so was always scared of dropping food down it.'

It was back in April when the dress started to become popular -  Zoe Sugg, Lily Pebbles and Hannah Gale had all been spotted in the sought after frock, which has a flowing, relaxed fit and costs just £40.

With a flattering sleeve length, ruffled hem and trendy playful polkadots, the versatile monochrome number is an ideal dress for spring.

However as the summer continued so did the popularity of the dress, with everyone and their mother wearing it.

One hilarious Instagram account has taken note of just how popular it really is, posting 'sightings' of the dress out in public.

From spotting the same frock several times at one event, to seeing double in the same space, the polka dot maxi has been seen all over the UK and account 'Hot 4 the Spot' happily receives the submission.
