PATNA: An irate crowd lynched a man after dragging him out of a house where he had taken shelter after shooting a teacher in leg at Aliganj Bazaar under Chandradeep police station area in Jamui district of Bihar at around 7pm on Wednesday.
Amarjeet Singh (35) was a native of Sonkhar village near Aliganj Bazaar locality. Injured Bablu Kumar Yadav (36) is a native of Baradih village under Sikandra police station area which is around six kilometre from the spot.
Following the lynching, villagers from Sonkhar attacked the house where Singh had taken shelter and torched it.

Jamui Sadar SDPO Rampukar Singh said the entire incident was the fallout of rivalry between groups of people belonging from two castes.
“The deceased person was having criminal records and was also accused in a murder case,” he said.
“Singh, who used to strongly advocate for his caste, was called near the market area by few people. After a heated argument, Singh shot Yadav in leg. Those who were with Yadav at spot chased Singh after he escaped,” he said.
The SDPO said that accused Singh took shelter inside the residence of one Santosh Sao in the market from where he was dragged out and lynched.

“Hours later, villagers of Sonkhar who were agitated over Singh’s killing, reached the market and torched Sao’s residence,” the SDPO said.
The SDPO said the country-made pistol used by Singh for shooting Yadav was yet to be recovered.
He said no one was arrested yet and police were focused on maintaining law and order in the area.
“Singh’s body was handed over to family after conducting post-mortem while Yadav was rushed to a hospital in Nawada where he was under treatment,” SDPO added.
