PATNA: An angry mob lynched one Amarjeet Singh (35) after dragging him out of a house where he had taken shelter after firing at one Bablu Kumar Yadav (36) at Aliganj Bazaar under the Chandradeep police station area in Jamui district around 7pm on Wednesday. Later, Singh’s villagers reached there and torched the house where he had taken shelter.
Singh was a native of Sonkhar, a neighbouring village of Aliganj Bazaar.
Injured Yadav, a teacher by profession, belongs to Baradih under the Sikandra police station area, around 6km from the spot.
Sadar SDPO Rampukar Singh said the incident was a fallout of caste rivalry. “Singh was also accused in a murder case,” he said.
“Singh, who always stood by his castemen, was called near the market by a few people. After heated arguments, Singh shot at Yadav and tried to flee. Those with Yadav chased Singh, who entered the house of one Santosh Sao. Yadav’s supporters dragged Singh out and beat him to death,” he said.
On hearing about Singh’s murder, his villagers reached there and torched Sao’s residence, the SDPO said.
The pistol used in shooting at Yadav was not recovered. “No one has been arrested. Singh’s body was handed over to his family after postmortem while Yadav was undergoing treatment at a Nawada hospital,” the SDPO added.
