AGRA: Two more children succumbed to infection caused by drinking of dirty water supplied by civic body in Firozabad, taking the death toll to four since the tragedy struck the city’s Anand Nagar locality on Tuesday.
As many as 14 other children are still in hospital, most of them in serious condition.
2-year-old Reyan and Naitik, just eight-month-old, died on Tuesday and Wednesday respectively.
While on Tuesday, 5-year-old Vicky and his younger sister Lakshmi (3) had died of diarrhea infection.
Deputy chief medical officer of Firozabad, Dr Kuldeep Tomar said, “Both Reyan and Naitik died due to consumption of contaminated water supplied by local civic authority. Reyan died on Tuesday evening, while Naitik took his last breath on Wednesday morning.”
Dr Tomar added, “We have distributed Firozabad city into eight zones, where nine teams of doctors, nursing staff and pharmacist have setup medical camps and are offering free medical check up to every person. Our teams will continue to visit the areas where deaths have taken place for the next seven days.”
According to locals, the civic authority was supplying contaminated water from the damaged water pipes for the last three weeks.

“Due to water leakage from pipe laid along the drains, the entire water was contaminated and hence so many people fell ill especially children,” added Deputy CMO Dr Tomar.
On Tuesday, a total 28 children fell ill in Anand Nagar after drinking the water.
Meanwhile, civic authority has started the work of restoration of pipes. The water supply has also been stopped temporarily till the pipe leakage is fixed.
Water is now being supplied by tankers to local residents.
District magistrate Firozabad, Chandra Vijay Singh, said, “A probe has been ordered to find out how the dirty water was supplied. Guilty will be punished.”
