KOLKATA: A division bench of the Calcutta high court on Friday lifted restrictions on BJP MP Saumitra Khan and allowed him to enter Bankura. Khan, who won from the Bishnupur parliamentary constituency, could not enter the district after the court’s order in jobs fraud case.
The division bench of Justice Jaymalya Bagchi and Justice Manojit Mandal on Friday granted permission to him.
Sources said Khan would be at Bishnupur on Sunday after a gap of around six months.
Khan, who defected from the Trinamool Congress in January, was slapped with cases accusing him of taking money on the pretext of securing jobs. A day after he joined the BJP, Khan’s personal secretary Sushanta Da, alias Gopi was arrested on charges under the Arms Act.
“Let the law take its own course. The state government has slapped false cases against me so that I cannot enter Bankura and Bishnupur and meet people. Meanwhile, I was allowed entry once on March 18 when I filed nomination for the Lok Sabha poll,” Khan said.
The two more cases including alleged involvement into illegal sand mining were also filed against him. Considering his political clout in the area, the court had barred Khan from entering Bankura district. “I could not enter the area from January 26. My wife had campaigned in my absence during the Lok Sabha election. The court has finally allowed me to enter Bankura,” Khan said.
