HC lifts curbs on Saumitra, allows him to go to Bankura
Kolkata: A Calcutta High Court division bench on Friday lifted the restriction on BJP MP Saumitra Khan from entering Bankura.
Khan, who won from the Bishnupur parliamentary constituency, had been unable to enter the district after a court order.
On Friday, the division bench of Justices Joymalya Bagchi and Manojit Mandal granted Khan permission to enter Bankura.
Khan, sources said, will be in Bishnupur on Sunday after around six months.
“Let the law take its own course. The state government has slapped false cases against me so that I cannot enter Bankura and Bishnupur and meet people. Meanwhile, I was allowed entry once on March 18 when I filed nomination for the Lok Sabha poll,” Khan said.
Khan, who defected from Trinamool in January, was slapped with cases accusing him of taking money on the pretext of securing jobs for people. Two more cases, including alleged involvement in illegal sand mining, were also filed against Khan. Considering his political clout in the area, the court had barred Khan from entering Bankura. “I could not enter the area from January 26. The court has finally allowed me to enter Bankura,” Khan said.
