New Delhi: A 42-year-old man was charred to death on Thursday after his SUV caught fire at Mukarba Chowk flyover in national capital.

According to the police, the victim, identified as Ajay Gupta, was a resident of Alipur Delhi and was going to Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport in his Mahindra XUV 500 when it caught fire. Gupta was going on a tour to Europe.

A PCR call regarding the incident was recieved at the Mahindra Park police station at around 10:37 pm on Thursday. The fire jammed the entire functioning of the car because of which Gupta was unable to open the door and was trapped inside the car. “Gupta’s body was completely charred in the fire. Rohini Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team inspected the crime scene. However, the reason for the fire is yet to be ascertained,” said a senior police official.
