Deadly superbug Candida Auris traced in Mysuru city patients

The presence of this superbug is confirmed through the molecular sequencing and the samples are now sent to Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education & Research, Chandigarh (PGIMER) for further studies.

MYSURU: Presence of deadly superbug, Candida Auris, has been traced in two patients at the JSS hospital of Mysuru city. The presence of this superbug is confirmed through the molecular sequencing and the samples are now sent to Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education & Research, Chandigarh (PGIMER) for further studies.
The superbug was traced following the research carried out by Umamaheshwari S, pursuing post-doctoral studies under Shubha Gopal, Professor, Department of Studies in Microbiology, the University of Mysore (UoM) and Dr.
Sumana M N, Professor and Head, the Department of Microbiology, JSS Medical College and Hospital.
Dr Sumana M N informed that the presence of superbug has been confirmed. "It was reported from different parts of the world until now. But now the presence of this superbug confirmed in Mysuru too," she told TOI.
Researcher Umamaheshwari informed that the presence of the superbug was traced a month ago "For the first time, the presence of this superbug reported in the state. Earlier its presence reported in other cities/ countries," she added.
According to the research team members, the organism of Candida Auris found in the two patients, who underwent surgery. These two patients were very weak.
