AURANGABAD: Three members of a family were brutally killed, while the fourth member sustained serious injuries in an attack on Saturday morning at Pimpargavhan near Vasangaon — a village on the outskirts of Beed town.
Beed superintendent of police Harsh Poddar said, “The victim and accused belong to the same family and prima-facie it appears that the murder is a result of family dispute over land.
We are trying to find as to what exactly happened on Saturday morning.”
The officer added that three accused have been arrested in the case and the process to ascertain if more people were involved in the case is underway. An offence in this regard has been registered at Beed rural police station.
A police officer said if the probe indicates that the crime was a preplanned murder, section 120B for criminal conspiracy would be added.
The deceased have been identified as Kiran Kashinath Pavne, Prakash and Dilip. Their brother Kisan, suspected to be one of the key suspects, was arrested in the evening, along with his two sons — Kalpesh and Sachin.
According to sources, the accused had reached out to a police station late on Friday claiming that they fear for their lives from members of their extended family. However, police refused to elaborate on the action taken on their complaint.

An officer privy to the probe said, “The chronology of events indicates that the crime was pre-planned. However, it is too early to conclude this at this stage.”
Highly-placed sources informed that the arrests were made after the son of one of the deceased, who also happens to be an eye-witness, met superintendent of police and narrated the incident.
In order to mislead the police, the accused after murdering the trio, systematically cleaned their fingerprint marks on the sharp-edged weapons and left it near their bodies.
