Restricted routes, U-turns slow down Faizabad Road traffic
Commuters stuck in a traffic jam at 1090 Crossing in Gomtinagar on Sunday.
LUCKNOW: The barricades put up on routes leading up to Indira Gandhi Pratishthan (IGP) in view of the VIPs visiting Lucknow brought traffic to a grinding halt on Faizabad Road and adjoining areas on Sunday .
The light showers also slowed down traffic movement along the stretch.
As part of its arrangements for the second groundbreaking ceremony in the city, police had put up barricades on several routes leading up to the event's venue-IGP.

As vehicles were not allowed on several routes near IGP, they were forced to take longer alternate routes most of which passed through Faizabad Road. The stretch between Chinhat trisection and Polytechnic Crossing was worst hit by the chaos.
Vibhuti Khand resident Pankaj Verma said, "The road is jammed as many people are taking U-turns because they didn't know about the traffic curbs on routes."
The rain slowed down two-wheelers and three-wheelers as several people stopped to take cover under the footover bridge near Polytechnic crossing.
Vipul Mishra, a businessman who owns a hotel in Gomtinagar, said, "Several commuters parked their vehicles under the overbridge, which has left lesser space for people to drive by. Such haphazard parking is leading to traffic snarls."
Traffic police inspector, Jagmohan Singh Bisht, said, "Traffic slowed down as commuters unaware about diversions started taking U-turns."
