17 year-old Ayesha made country proud by winning 2 gold medals

New Delhi: Hima Das, the most discussed name in the athlete who won five gold medals in various competitions within a span of 20 days.

Now, another daughter of India made country proud who won 2 gold medals and 1 silver at an international rope-skipping tournament.

Daughter of a Tailor:

Ayesha (17) is a daughter of a tailor and a student of government school. She lives in northeast Delhi and wants to make a career in the sport.

Journey to the sport:

Talking about her journey, Ayesha said: “When I was in Class VII, a coach visited our school. He trained us for a couple of months and then took me to the academy. My father supported me all through.” – as reported by TOI.

Ayesha would travel for an hour from her house in Mustafabad to the coaching centre at Karawal Nagar.

Ayesha’s Skipping Record:

She broke the national record in Class VIII, skipping 92 times in 30 seconds. The earlier record was 89. But her highest score was of 95 in 30 seconds, when she went for the nationals in Maharashtra.

She is “an average” student. She scored 54% in Class X boards and is now pursuing humanities in Class XI.

Yasmeen Sultana, a physical teacher of Ayesha said, Ayesha was a champion right from the start. “She won gold medals from every competition. And, now, she has done everyone proud,” she added.

Ayesha’s Aim

She wants to become like her coach. She said: “I want to become like my sir (the coach), but I don’t know how to do it. I have seen that Delhi University does not recognise this sport, so I don’t know.”

Ayesha said she felt immensely proud when she was called “the best skipper in India”.
