KOLLAM: A court in Kollam on Monday convicted an auto-rickshaw driver of rape and murder of a court employee in Mangadu in 2013. Saji alias Anoop, 49, of Kothumbil Kizhakkathil in Mangadu, was declared guilty by the IV Kollam Additional District judge S. Krishnakumar under IPC sections 302 for murder, 449 for barging into the house, and 376 for rape.
Special public prosecutor G. Mohanraj and Mangadu C.S. Sunil appeared for the prosecution.
Saji used to drop the woman in his auto-rickshaw at the nearby bus stop regularly. On the morning of January 16, 2013, he barged into her house while she was changing her dress and getting ready for her duty at the court.
He pushed her onto the floor, injuring her head and raped. She was later strangled using a mobile phone charger cable to cover up the incident.
