CBSE to introduce compulsory sports period in schools
Being active has multiple benefits among kids and has been proven to boost their cognitive skills and developing mind. Keeping this in mind, the Central Board of Secondary Education, the leading education council in the country has come up with a plan to introduce a compulsory sports period for students of class 1 to 12, focusing solely on health and physical education.

Earlier, this initiative was made compulsory only for the students in higher grades, from class 9 to 12. Now, it will reportedly be extended for the junior classes too.
According to experts, this move is being planned to help them deal with the academic pressure and promote holistic wellness.
"The motive is to include physical activity in children’s daily routine. If a child shows interest or has the capability to do well in certain games or athletics they will be provided with focused training too."
Apart from this, proposals are also being planned to make sure kids with special needs are taken care of and not excluded from the classes. Use of wheelchairs, sign-language will be encouraged to make sure kids participate in huge numbers.
Yoga will also be made part of the curriculum.
Allowing students to make their own choices, CBSE will let children make up their own syllabus, choose the sport or wellness program of their own liking. Options available to kids include athletics, swimming, adventure sports, apart from the already available options in schools.
The move is winning praise from parents and sports enthusiasts alike, with people adding that this will cut down the risk of childhood obesity and health ailments arising from a largely sedentary lifestyle.
