NASHIK: A 12-year-old boy died of head injuries after a steel cupboard fell on him while he was playing with his friends in the classroom during the short recess here on Tuesday afternoon.
Jayesh Avtar, who lived at Makhmalabad road in the Panchavati, was a class 7 student in a private school. The cupboard fell on him around 3pm, said senior inspector Sunil Rohakale of the Sarkarwada police station.
The boys were playing in the classroom as it was raining. No teacher was present in the class.
The students were pushing each other near the cupboard when it fell on Jayesh. Jayesh was rushed to the Nashik civil hospital where the doctors declared him brought dead.
Rohakale said that Jayesh's father Sakharam runs an opticals shop in the city. Jayesh had studied up to class 5 at Ramabai Ambedkar School and had shifted to Maratha High School from class 6. Family members said Jayesh had worn a new uniform to school on the day. They said he was an intelligent student who aspired to join the armed forces.
