Secunderabad is home to more number of foreign nationals than Hyderabad. This interesting detail has emerged in the recent Census 2011 migration data of cities in united Andhra Pradesh.

Secunderabad is home to more number of foreign nationals than Hyderabad. This interesting detail has emerged in the recent Census 2011 migration data of cities in united Andhra Pradesh. GHMC and Secunderabad have 1,890 foreign nationals as migrants and Secunderabad has the lion's share of 1,639.
The migrants data of Census 2011 consists of foreigners' data of 10 towns apart from Secunderabad and GHMC areas.
The Census mentioned foreigners as people of Asian countries and non-Asian countries. Telangana has about 2,000 foreign nationals in the 10 towns. The Census data shows that the foreigners have been residing in cities and towns for not more than five years and very few of them have resided for more than five years.

Four hundred and nine migrants from Asian countries reside in both GHMC and Secunderabad areas.
Experts said a majority of the foreigners have come here to pursue education or work in international institutions. "Some of the foreign institutes give credit to those who work outside their country. International NGOs have their presence too," C Ganesh, professor of sociology department, Osmania University, said.
According to OU officials, till March-April this year, about 2,900 foreign students are pursuing various courses in the varsity. They belong to 72 countries across the globe. Most of the students hail from Somalia, Sudan, Yemen, Afghanistan, Iran and Iraq. There are also some students from China and European countries. Some of the students belong to Thailand and Hong Kong.

Students come in three categories. Students are sponsored under study in India and fellowship programmes for foreign students. Third category is self-finance by students. University officials said that most of the foreign students join the courses under the self-finance mode. They prefer courses like BBA, BCA, regular undergraduate and graduate courses. Some are pursuing Phd.
Experts said a majority of the foreign students reside in Tarnaka, Tolichowki, Mehdipatnam and Sainikpuri. "These students take up small jobs so that they can manage their expenses," professor J Narsimha Rao of department of foreign relations said. It is also observed that some of these foreign students take up courses in institutions like NIT of Warangal.
