MUMBAI: Four members of a family, including a senior couple, were injured when the tile roof of their home came crashing down while they were sleeping early Tuesday in Palghar.
The district has been receiving moderate rainfall since the past few days.
Kishore Vimawala ( 67), his wife Kalpana (62) and son Nipesh (36) sustained injuries on their heads and limbs when the roof came crashing down at around 4.30am.
The house is located on the Palghar- Mahim Road.
The family members were sleeping when the roof collapse woke them up. Hearing the sound even neighbours rushed to the house to find the Vimawala family under the debris. Luckily as it was easy to separate the roof tiles and pull out the victims. Vimawala’s youngest son Jigar (34) had a miraculous escape, even though he too was sleeping in the room.
Family members said that water was seeping in through the roof following the rains since the past few days. The tiles were not covered with plastic sheets as is done by most houses that have tile roofs.
The fire brigade too reached the spot and helped the family members to come out safely.
