MUZAFFARPUR: A 16-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped at Barheta Gangapur village under Hathaudi police station area, nearly 30km from Muzaffarpur town, on Tuesday evening.
Police sources said the four accused also tried to strangle her. But the girl, who is a Class VII student, somehow survived. She was admitted to a local primary health centre in a precarious condition.
She was later referred to Sri Krishna Medical College and Hospital (SKMCH) for treatment.
Muzaffarpur SSP Manoj Kumar said the medical examination of the victim will be done once her condition improves. Hathaudi SHO Rajpat Kumar said an FIR had been lodged with the women police station on the statement of the survivor's father. "I was informed about the incident by the survivor's father. We recovered her in a critical condition from an orchard and sent her to a hospital," the SHO said, adding that raids were on to nab the accused.
The incident took place when the girl was going to the market to buy milk. "Four youths of the village gagged me and forcibly took me to a nearby orchard. When I tried to raise my voice, they thrashed me badly and threatened to eliminate my family if I dare narrate the incident to anyone. They also strangulated me and left the orchard apprehending that I was dead," the girl said in her statement to the police. The survivor regained consciousness in the hospital.
