HYDERABAD: The body of a worker Muppeda Gangaram from Telangana has been lying in a morgue in Erbil, Iraq, for the last 24 days as the family in Nizamabad has received no help from the authorities concerned to send the body to India. Gangaram, 47, had died of a heart attack on July 8 in the room provided by the company he was working for.
Though local government formalities had been completed for the body to be sent back to India, the issue of who will meet the expenses to fly the body arose.
“Neither the Consulate General of India in Erbil nor the Telangana government has done anything to bring my father’s body,” son Naresh said. He was informed that the expenditure to fly the body in a cargo would be ?2.4 lakh. “Where can we get that kind of money,” asked Naresh, who works in a private firm in Nizamabad.
Gangaram of Velmal village in Nadipet mandal had gone to Iraq six years ago and worked there for three years.
