MUZAFFARPUR: A 14-year-old student was stabbed to death in front of an entire class of around 40 students at a government school in Muzaffarpur district on Thursday afternoon. The incident took place at the Government Middle School in Bada Jaganath village under Ahiapur police station.
Police said Suraj Kumar was repeatedly stabbed with a dagger as he had an altercation with the assailant who had tried to snatch his mother’s purse on Wednesday evening.

“The assailant Munna Rai, who is from the same village as the victim, barged into the class with a dagger in his hand and attacked Suraj before anyone could understand anything. He stabbed several times on Saroj’s chest, stomach and hands,” said a student, who was present in the class, but did not want to be named. The attacker Munna fled before anybody could come to Suraj’s rescue, he added.
Alerted by students after the attacker fled, Suraj’s family members rushed to the school and took the injured boy to Sri Krishna medical College and Hospital (SKMCH) in Muzaffarpur where he was declared dead on arrival by the doctors, police said.
Deputy SP (town) Mukul Kumar Ranjan who had gone to SKMCH along with Ahipur police station SHO, said after a manhunt the accused Munna Rai has been arrested. “We are recording the statement of the deceased’s family members. We had earlier conducted raids to nab the accused,” the deputy SP said.
Vijay Ram, father of the victim, said Munna had an altercation with Suroj on Wednesday evening. “Suroj caught Munna red-handed while he was trying to snatch my wife’s bag. Munna brought the matter before the panchayat and tried to put pressure on us to not lodge a police complaint against him. He had also threatened us yesterday and today he killed my son,” said Ram.
