AGRA: Ramveer Beniwal, 25, from Mathura’s Hulwana Piparwala village was killed during an exchange of fire between terrorists and security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Shopian district on Friday.
Ramveer was part of 34 Rashtriya Rifles Battalion (Jat) and was deployed at Shopian district when the area was attacked by terrorists late on Thursday. According to reports, security forces have cordoned off the affected area in Shopian and the encounter was still underway.
Senior divisional magistrate, Chhatta, Dr Nitin Gaur, who visited the village, said that he had spoken to Company Commander Lt Col Mohan from Jat regiment and was informed that mortal remains of martyred soldier, Ramveer, will be brought to his native village from Agra airport on Saturday.

“Local residents have demanded that a particular piece of land should be allotted for construction of a memorial in Ramveer’s memory. After finalising the land, the proposal will be sent to the higher authorities for approval,” he said, adding that all the necessary arrangements will be made for the soldier’s last rites.
According to Ramveer’s cousin, Anoop Chaudhary, they heard the news at 6.30 in the morning. Chaudhary said that the officials from J&K told them that Ramveer was grievously injured during an exchange of fire. He took three bullets on his chest and was immediately taken to a hospital but could not be saved despite best efforts by the doctors.
Chaudhary told TOI that Ramveer had returned to Jammu on March 29 after a two-month vacation with his family. “We never thought that this would be his last visit to the village,” said Chaudhary, adding that now only his body will come here.

Ramveer’s devastated wife Neetu told TOI, “What will happen to my little children’s future. They aren’t even aware of their father’s demise?”
She said that her younger son, Aditya is six-month-old and elder one, Shiva is three. Shiva has just started going to school. “Life has come to a standstill for me as I am a housewife and I have never worked outside the confines of my home,” she said, adding that her husband last spoke to her on Wednesday evening.
Ramveer’s another cousin, Mahesh Beniwal, said, “there should be revenge against the killings of our brave soldiers”. “My four brothers are in the Army and we want to take revenge against the killings of our brave soldiers,” said Mahesh, wondering how long “we have to suffer this senseless violence”.
