Madhepura still waterlogged

Madhepura still waterlogged
MADHEPURA: This municipal town is facing a major problem of waterlogging in several localities which are under knee-deep water following the recent rainfall.
Almost all the roads, including the main road and sub-divisional office premises are inundated. People have to wade through the muddy water from the busy Karpoori Thakur Chowk and Central Bank Chowk which connects the railway station and the divisional town, Saharsa.
Similar situation prevails on the busy BP Mandal Path, a part of NH-106 near Parwati Science College, sadar hospital, eastern bypass road and veterinary hospital roads of the town.
According to the residents, all the canals and sewerages are chocked. “Many development schemes were approved for development of this town which includes construction of PCC roads and sewerages. “However, no work has been initiated till date,” said a political activist Rajendra Kumar. He also alleged that the Madhepura civic body acts in an irresponsible manner. “A sewerage constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 6 crore has been left incomplete without any outlet,” Kumar added.
Canals constructed along the PCC road at Guljarbag, Jeewan Sadan road, Jagjeewan Path, Post Office road etc have no outlet. Many of them are filled with sewage, which are breeding ground for the mosquitoes. People cannot cross these roads without covering their nose with handkerchiefs.
BSP leader Guljar Kumar said, “The local MLC had raised this issue in the council.”
Madhepura municipal corporation’s executive officer Praveen Kumar said that he had received a letter from the council secretary in this regard. “However, it will not be possible to initiate any move at this juncture work will progress according to the master plan, which is gathering dust for approval for the last two years. We are trying to keep the canals clean for the time being,” the civic body official said.
