Sripada Yellampalli project in Peddapalli district filled to its brim following the copious inflows on Sunday.

Thanks to the incessant rains and copious inflows, the Sripada Yellampalli Project (SYP) in Ramagundam mandal in the district is all set to be filled to its brim.

Though, there are no inflows into the river Godavari on which the project is built, but due to incessant rains in its catchment areas and neighbouring Nirmal district and release of the surplus waters from the Kadem project, the authorities are like to open the gates of the Yellampalli project anytime now to release surplus water into the river Godavari.

At 5 p.m. on Sunday the SYP has 18.7584 tmc ft water against the full capacity of 20.175 tmc ft. The project was receiving 46,306 cusecs of water.

Lifting water

On Sunday evening, the water level was 147.49 metres against 148 metres. Officials were taking all necessary measures for the lifting of the water from the project to the Mid Manair Dam as part of Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project (KLIP).

It may be recalled that on July 27, the SYP was having only 4.83 tmc ft of water and inflows of only 1514 cusecs. On July 28, the project was having 5.11 tmc ft of water with inflows of 2654 cusecs.

On August 2, it was having 10.21 tmc ft and inflows of 33,722 cusecs and on August 3 it reached 13.55 tmc ft and inflows of 43,417 cusecs.

Single day

On Sunday (August 4) alone, the project capacity reached 18.7584 tmc ft of water with inflows of 46,306 cusecs at 5 p.m. The project received more than 5 tmc ft of water on one day on Sunday following the heavy inflows which even crossed 1 lakh cusecs at a point of time.

The SYP would provide irrigation to around 2 lakh acres in Karimnagar, Rajanna-Sircilla, Peddapalli and Jagtial districts. Besides, it would provide water for industrial needs of NTPC Ramagundam, RFCL, drinking water to Hyderabad city, and Mission Bhagiratha waters to Dharmapuri, Manthani, Peddapalli, Mancherial Assembly segments.

The lifting of waters from the SYP, as part of KLIP, is likely to be delayed by few more days due to non-completion of tunnel lining works of Package-7, as a result the water lifting from SYP to Mid Manair Dam is likely to be delayed.

In the meantime, the authorities are alerting the officials to release surplus waters from Yellampalli project any time into the river Godavari, which would flow down to fill the Sundilla, Annaram and Medigadda barrages.
